Tithing is a requirement of Israel. It is mentioned in the Bible that Abraham gave tithe (see Genesis 14:18-20). Jacob vowed to give one tenth of all he received, back to God as a thank offering for his care (see Genesis 28:22). The Mosaic instruction commanded the Israelites to pay tithe of their increase in their herds as well as the seed of the land (see Leviticus 27:30-33). Jesus spoke of tithing as being a part of the Law of God which should be kept along with love and mercy (see Matthew 23:23).
Tithing is part of a personal covenant we make with God and God has promised to pour out a blessing on any who pay tithe (see Malachi 3:8-10).
